Laparoscopic prostate surgery
Laparoscopic prostate surgery was originally abandoned as having little benefit over traditional prostatectomy, has undergone a rebirth in the last four years. The surgery is performed with many of the same instrumentation that is used for laparoscopic kidney surgery, but has the added advantage of 10 times the magnification for improved vision in in the harder to reach places within the body. While Laparoscopic prostate surgery with the surgeon holding the instruments can be performed, but requires very high surgical skills and there are some parts of the operation that are very difficult. In robotic prostate surgery, a robot performs all the difficult cutting and surgery while the surgeon controls the robot with a computer.
