Starting out as a criminal investigator

I was considering a career in criminal investigation working in the private sector. The story was that novice investigators were given some cases to handle that were very low level and totally uninteresting. However, this was the most common form of crime handled by private agencies, and where they earned their bread and butter. So I said to myself, “Got to start somewhere.” The company told me that as a trainee investigator I would gain the valuable practical experience that I needed before I could be eligible to sit the criminal investigator’s examination. Maybe it’s just me but I dont’ find the ‘novice’ cases to be uninteresting.  I’m really enjoying it and think I’ve made the right career choice.
